About Wetland Link International - Asia (WLI-Asia)

For the better implementation of communication, education and public awareness (CEPA) programmes on wetland conservation, a Pan-Asian network, known as the Wetland Link International Asia (WLI-Asia) network has been established in June 2005.

Wetland Link International – Asia (WLI - Asia) is a regional network of the global Wetland Link International (WLI). WLI-Asia aims to build up a network between wetland centers in Asia, through regular communication and information sharing, access to advice, support and expertise as well as outside the region.

This website provides information about this emerging network of wetland education centres in the Asian Region. It facilitates the sharing of experience, education material, management and conservation news within the network of wetland centres in Asia.

Wetland Link International

WLI WWT LogosWetland Link International (WLI) is a global network of wetland education centres formed in 1991 by the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) in UK, to help organisations and governments throughout the world in the development of CEPA initiatives.

WWT is the Global Coordinator of WLI which is its global CEPA progrogramme. Apart from Asia, there are other WLI regional networks in the UK/Eire, Australia and Canada.

WLI is serving to facilitate:

  • Exchanges of expertise and information among members;
  • Support for new and established wetland education centres' development and the dissemination of best practices;
  • Advocacy for the inclusion of communication, education and public awareness (CEPA) programmes within wetland conservation initiatives and policy-making in the Asia Region with a view for the rest of the world.

WLI is endorsed by the Ramsar Convention as an important way of undertaking CEPA for wetlands through wetland education centres. It has a significant role in the CEPA Prgramme through the network of global, regional and national level. Click here for Memorandum of Cooperation between Ramsar and WLI:
